Trying out something new to start off the new year! =)

The last few weeks of '07 I've been looking at a bunch of artists' galleries and was inspired to try my hand at some digital painting (that wasn't just a figure standing on a blank background). I decided to paint my character Ridleigh by

Liadys in a little more realistic but still cartoonish style.

The background's still a bit blotchy, but I'm generally happy with the outcome. Any feedback or tips to help with future pieces would be great =)

i like the charcoal feel. i think just a tad of red here and there would really pop and give it personality ^.^ the way the hand holding the gun looks is a bit awkward. overall a great job

The colours are very grayish it looks like you used black to create shadows. Now of course you can use this for a style to combine with the black/white clothing. But right now the skin is also gray and in general it is all very boring in colour. Also real light shadow does not work like that (see for example the shadow of trees on a sunny day...these are blue as the sky is reflected in the shadow) I personally would add more hues to the skin and not use black there.

The character and background are quite nice though. A little polish might be good and details but overal that works quite well

I like it. I really like the desaturated style.

Would have liked to see the complete weapon. Just a tiny bit more definition and contrast in the bg.
Love her face.

Good background, and a nice rendering of the girl. The black white striped shirt is such a great touch.
